10/4/19 - Eureka, MO

I have not traveled for a long, long time, it seems.  My dog, Bungie, has become less willing to travel and more intolerant of staying at a kennel, as he nears his 12th birthday.  My daughter, Shannon, is retiring from the Army on 12/1/19 and is taking leave until then.  Her gracious offer to dogsit inspired a return trip to Santa Fe.

When I traveled Route 66 two years ago, I only spent one night in Santa Fe.  It was a quick stop and as I drove through the downtown the next morning, I realized that I wanted to come back some day, without a dog, and explore this charming city.  Our book club recently read Willa Cather's Death of the Archbishop, which includes much of the history of this area of the country and construction of the cathedral that I saw that morning as I left Santa Fe.

So it all came together and I was able to hit the road this morning.  I am driving alone, no whiny frantic dog, and listening to a good audiobook set in Charleston, SC (next year's vacation destination).  I am spending the night in my teardrop camper on the west side of St. Louis.  No photos today, but I will be looking for more opportunities tomorrow.

Much of the day, I was singing my version of this song,

Just substitute Santa Fe.  Catchy, isn't it?
