VACATION 2018 HOME
On my way back home from Fort Wayne today, I decided to make a stop in Michigan City to check out our vacation house and the area.Michigan City itself reminds me of Fort Wayne about 10 years ago, with an attempt being made to make the downtown area more welcoming. I easily found the Art Museum, Outlet Shoppes, and some breweries.
I did find this park in the downtown area, right on Lake Michigan.
That's the front of my car to show you how close you can park to the water at this park. Most other areas that I visited required a walk over a sand dune and I wasn't in the mood to take a hike.
Sea gulls, just like the ocean and a light house.
This view shows the beach toward our house's location and the tall brown structure is close to where we are located.
Shannon will be pleased to visit the Blue Chip Casino, which is probably within a .5 to 1 mile from the beach house.
The house itself is more accessible than many, which are perched on high hills/sand dunes. Here are several views of ours.
It looks well maintained on the outside and has this empty lot next to it in a very crowded neighborhood. There is room to park 4 cars in front (first picture) and visitors may use the space next door.
I am not sure, but I think we will be able to see the Lake from the upper decks, and it appears that this deck belongs to the house also. Take my word for it, if you can't enlarge the photo enough to see the brown steps and deck.
The beach access is about 1.5 blocks from the house and down this path. I did not take the path due to people being out and about and not having a place to park, but it shouldn't be a hard walk.
It took me about 2.5 hours to get there from Fort Wayne and it is about 1 hour from Chicago. I took Highway 20 to the Interstate near Chicago and saw many access roads to the Dunes National Shoreline.
I look forward to a relaxing and fun vacation with you all.
Love, Kathy
