Route 66 - Day 7
I just realized that I have been in 3 states today. I woke in MO, drove through KS and I am sleeping in OK tonight. Route 66 still continues to entertain me. Each mile has brought me something unexpected. I saw the Bar None Cowboy Church today, started to recognize that every town has at least one Chinese restaurant, and there are more pick up trucks in OK than cars.
Kansas has very few miles of Route 66 but I got a kick out of this display in Galena. Now I never saw the movie Cars, but there seems to be some connection with Route 66.

Galena is a small town but they have done Route 66 well with these points of interest.
These signs in Riverton helped me know what else to expect in Kansas.
Baxter Springs's Rainbow Arch Bridge was the last bridge of it's type on the route.
Doesn't Baxter Springs have a cute Visitor Center?
Before I knew it, we were in Commerce, OK. What a sad town. This statue of Mickey Mantle makes me think that it played a role in his life. If so, no wonder he went crazy after getting to the big city.
My favorite site in Commerce was this car. What do you suppose the cement blocks are for? Anchors?
Afton's Station Packard Museum provided another keychain in addition to to this penguin who welcomed me to their restroom.
The only famous Okies that I know are Mickey Mantle and Will Rogers, so I had to find the Will Rogers Archway in Vinita. It turns out to be a rest stop on the Will Rogers Turnpike.
Ed Galloway's Totem Pole Park in Chelsea is wild. He built these things out of concrete years ago.
I ran into Will Rogers again at his Memorial Museum in Claremore. Bungie made some new friends as we walked around enjoying this lovely park.
Bungie gets pretty tired watching me all day. I think that he is afraid that he will miss something and it's cutting into his nap time. We are at the KOA next to the Cherokee Casino in Claremore tonight. I was able to get 4 hours work in when he napped. Now I am ready to join him. Good night, all.
