Now that I am 66 years old, I want to travel Route 66. And now that I live near Chicago, the origin of Route 66, I am headed west this Fall.

And got to a night game at Wrigley Field to see the Cubs get beat by the Pirates. My sister, Stephanie, her husband, Chris and son, Carter spent the night in our new guest room and the camper. We are taking reservations.

There is lots of information available to help with trip planning but I would love to hear stories and suggestions of sights to see along the way. Since I also want to see my brother, Bob, in Crestone, CO and my best friend, Karen, in Eureka, CA I think that I will follow Route 66 to Albuquerque and then head north. Maybe I can swing by Phoenix on the way home to visit some friends there.
My first time hosting a SCRABBLE tournament will happen in New Haven, IN on 9/16/17. So I think that I will hit the road in the week after that. I have checked for SCRABBLE tournaments along the way but don't see anything planned along my route yet. Hopefully that will change or I can play with my old club in Phoenix.
It's great that I can do my little bit of work anywhere with wifi to earn gas money, so I have no absolute deadlines of a return date and it may be that the weather will determine that.
Living with my daughter, Shannon is turning out to be easier than I had anticipated. It sure is nice to have someone to spend time with after living alone for so many years. I plan to take advantage of her offer to dog sit this weekend and head to Indianapolis for a day of SCRABBLE on Saturday.
In the last month I have had some fun. The family trip to Oak Island was wonderful, as always. This was the first evening, looking west at the International Waterway, known affectionately as "The Ditch." I spent more time in the pool at the beach house than in the salt water, but there is something healing about salt air, isn't there?
And any vacation with Shannon involves shopping. Here I am looking for good deals.
We came home to find that the lower level of the house (my space) had flooded while we were gone. Now I know why having a door to the outside might not be a benefit in this crazy weather we have been having. We have flooded twice more since then due to heavy rainfalls of about an inch an hour. The poor drain outside the door just can't keep up with that volume of water. But we are now prepared for the next storm, with sandbags and a wet vac!
As most of you know, I celebrate my July 6th birthday all month and was lucky enough to spend it with Shannon this year. We finally got to Lake Michigan and saw the fireworks here in Lake Zurich on the 4th.
We donated some money to the Rivers Casino.
And got to a night game at Wrigley Field to see the Cubs get beat by the Pirates. My sister, Stephanie, her husband, Chris and son, Carter spent the night in our new guest room and the camper. We are taking reservations.
We are going to see James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt at Wrigley Field on 7/16/17. I hope the seats are not quite so high up.
I hope you all are enjoying your summer as much as I am. Happy trails!
